Olympic Games

History of Olympic:-
The world "Olympic" means "of, or from Olympia." The ancient games were held in Olympia are referred to as the Olympic Games, which has been reduced to the Olympics. They were held every four years in honor of the mythical Greek God Zeus , it was played first time near about in 776 BC. The Olympic Games reached their peak in the 6th and 5th centuries BC, however then slowly declined in significance as Greek came under rule of Romans.
History of Modern Olympics:-
The first of the modern Olympics were held on April 6, 1896, a long-lost custom of early Greece, was played in  Athens 1,500 years later than being banned by Roman rule Theodosius I. King Georgios I of Greece addressed  at the welcome ceremony of the Athens Games, & a mass of 60,000 audience welcomed athletes as of 13 nations to the international competition then it was played every four years in different places of world second one was played in Paris in 1900 after that in
Saint Louis in 1904, London in 1908, Stockholm in 1912, Cancelled (was due in Berlin) in 1916, Antwerp (Belgium) in 1920, Paris in 1924, Amsterdam in 1928, Los Angeles in 1932, Berlin in 1936, Cancelled (was due in Tokyo) in 1940, Cancelled (was due in Helsinki) in 1944, London in 1948, Helsinki in 1952, Melbourne in 1956, Rome in 1960, Tokyo in 1964, Mexico City in 1968, Munich in 1972, Montreal in 1976, Moscow in 1980, Los Angeles in 1984, Seoul in 1988, Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008 and now  a days the Olympics is going on in London( Olympics 2012)and the next will be in Rio, Brazil. The 1916 Olympic Games were cancelled due to World War I and the 1940 and 1944 Winter and Summer Games were cancelled due to World War II.
Symbol of Olympics:-
5 tangled rings called Olympic rings represents the unity of the 5 colonized continents [America, Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia].
Events or ceremonies:-
Three ceremonies named Open ceremony closing ceremony and Medal presentation held in an opening ceremony, an opening ceremony starts with the hoisting of the host's flag & an act of its state national hymn and entertain the audience with the representation of its cultural value, a medal ceremony is held following each one event is completed, in a closure ceremony Flag-bearers from each participating nation come into the arena, with their participants 3 national flags are hoisted at the same time as the parallel national anthems are played: the flag of Greece, to honor the native land of the Olympic Games and the flag of the present host country, and the flag of the country hosting the after that Summer or Winter Olympics.
No: of sports:-
At the 1st   Olympics in 1896, there were 9 sports played. Since that time many sports have been added & removed from the event. In 2012 there is 26 sports being contested and in the next Olympics there will be 28 sports.
Selection of place:-
The host capital for an Olympic is generally selected 7 years before its commemoration. The procedure of selection is carried out in 2 phases of 2-year time. The probable host capital applies to its country's National Olympic Committee if more than 1 city from the same countryside submits a application to its NOC the national committee typically holds an internal selection, since only 1city per NOC can be obtainable to the International Olympic Committee for concern.
